Allowing same sex couples to marry – Senate Legal & Constitutional Committee Inquiry

Do you support Marriage Equality? Please ensure that you take the time to do a submission for marriage equality – it won’t take very long and it is of huge consequence to our sons and daughters.

Presently, your child may not consider this as important in his / her life at the moment, but it will make a difference for him / her in a few years if they ever want to marry their partner. Remember: this is a human right. Also, as parents, we want our all of our children to be equal in their home country and your letter to this Inquiry will help to ensure this happens.

We have written a handy guide (located here), to help you write your letter, including details of where to email it to. We thank you for your support.

Remember, this needs to be submitted by 2nd April 2012 at the latest

We are parents of a gay son who is now 34. He and his partner have been in a loving relationship for many years. They are planning to buy a house together. I would like gay marriage to be legal because I believe in equality for all and it is much easier for them in situations such as buying a home etc. as far as legalities go. It saves a lot of paperwork and concern for everyone. I just wish we could stand beside other enlightened countries who have legal gay marriage in place. Instead we lag behind and it is an embarrassement apart from being quite immoral as far as I am concerned. Gay people can go to war and die for their country but they are not allowed to marry….quite disgusting. Let us do something about it soon, and allow our children equality, for goodness sake.

Everybody should be rejoicing in the fact that two people what to commit to each other as they choose to live a life together.Marriage is about repect for each other and sharing your life with the other person. It’s about sticking by each other for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish. I have heard people saying that the Bible says this and the Bible says that. I talk with God every day and He has always been their for me. He is not a bully. His love is unconditional and He has never turned away from me. My partner and I are raising our daughter and son to be repectful and caring citizens. Our daughter is a straight A student and does ballet. Our son receives B’s and plays junior rugby league. We help them with homework, arrange playdates with other parents and are active in the community. What I am saying is that we are just a normal, average family raising children. It’s just that our children have a Ma and a Wa instead of a Mum and a Dad. It would be lovely for us and for the rest of both our famililes if we could be married and seal the deal properly.

I strongly believe that marriage is a fundamental right, not a hetrosexual privilege… it’s time for Australian politicians to move on to more pressing issues like putting international pressure on finding “KONY” in Uganda to save those thousands of innocent children from armed conflicts and abduction rather than focusing on who gets married to whom…

Human rights are not for some but not for others. It’s not the role of government to discriminate against any one group, it should govern for all. Australia is better than this, our representatives should be as well.
